Vizag gears up for some colourful fun

From traditional celebration of colours to fun-filled rain bashes, Holi fervour is high in the city.
A traditional touch
Holla Mohalla for Punjabis, Holika Dahan for Rajasthanis and Rang Lagana for Marwaris — Holi is celebrated in a grand manner by every community in the city. Jayanth Khatri, a member of the Sikh community, says, "It's a three-day festival for us. We start with a procession and puja followed by a lot of good food. In our community, gulaal signifies unity and keeps us together." For Rajasthanis in the city, it's a day of celebrating the victory of good over evil. Swathi Pandit, a member of Mahila Mandal Organisation, says, "This Holi, we are trying to bring tradition to the forefront by organising cookery classes where youngsters can learn how to whip up dishes like dahi vada, malpua and thandai among other dishes." Swathi Shah, adds, "Holi is the time to spend with friends and family and we do this by conducting cultural programmes where people of all age groups come together and participate." Read more
