The Maker Film Festival, A Film Celebration of the Maker Movement in Durango, Colorado

The Maker Film Festival

The 1st Maker Film Festival, a showcase of films by and about the maker movement, takes place August 9 and 10, 2014 at the Powerhouse Science Center in Durango, Colorado. The festival will include a screening of the feature length documentary Maker and a talk by artist Johannes Grenzfurthner of Austrian art group Monochrom.

Inspiring innovation, creation and discovery are at the heart of the maker movement and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate those endeavors than through Film. The Maker Film Festival sets out to highlight movements that are changing the world through action, showcase technologies that are enabling powerful new modes of expression, and relish in the incredible things that happen when people of all ages are empowered to create.

European Space Agency's Rosetta Spacecraft Arrives at Comet Destination After 10 Years

The European Space Agency‘s Rosetta spacecraft has arrived at its comet destination after a journey of 10 years. Rosetta was launched in 2004 with the intended goal of reaching Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P), following the comet as it orbits the Sun, and eventually dropping a lander (Philae) on the surface of the comet. The mission’s next order of business will be scanning for a landing site for Philae. The New York Times has more on the mission and its arrival.

Epic Frequency is an artwork collection based on the waveform visual rendering of classic recordings. The collection includes historical voice recordings like "One Small Step" by Neil Armstrong and classic songs like "Let it Be" by The Beatles. The works also include a QR code that lets users listen to the recording on mobile device. Customers can also have works created based on their own recordings.

Daewoo Begins Testing Robotic Exoskeletons for Shipyard Workers in South Korea

The Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering facility in Okpo-dong, South Korea has begun testing a prototype version of a robotic exoskeleton that will let dock workers lift 220-pound objects in its final form. The 62-pound prototypes have a three-hour battery life and allow their wearers to walk at a normal speed.

Since the early 1960s, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby‘s X-Men have been sold on comic racks near you. Since 2000, 20th Century Fox has been desperately trying to match their pace.

After his show-stealing interview with WNEP Newswatch 16 co-anchor Sofia Ojeda at a county fair in Pennsylvania, five-year-old Noah Ritter was “apparently” tracked down by ABC News reporter Gio Benitez to hang out and partake in a follow-up interview. Ritter did not disappoint with his fun comments about wanting to someday becoming a paleontologist, needing a refreshing drink, and his large brain.
