An Exploration of the Intentions of PBS Idea Channel by PBS Idea Channel

Posted: 27 May 2014 02:10 PM PDT

PBS Idea Channel host Mike Rugnetta takes the “100th-ish” episode to explore the intentions of the show and how he as host attempts to guide it. In short, it is a PBS Idea Channel episode about PBS Idea Channel.

An Idea Channel episode ABOUT Idea Channel? It was inevitable, I guess. Since we’ve reach our one-hundredth(ish) episode, we thought’d we’d turn the microscope on ourselves, and talk about what we hope IC is accomplishing. What ARE we trying to do here? Who is the show inspired by? And through all this exclaiming, dissecting, and over thinking, are we SUCCEEDING?

“Bird-Witched”, A Fantastic Collection of Bird-Themed Stiletto Heel Shoes Designed By Masaya Kushino

Posted: 27 May 2014 01:04 PM PDT

Bird-witched

Japanese shoe designer Masaya Kushino, known for incredibly creatively extravagant footwear, released his newest collection, “Bird-Witched“, earlier this year. According to Mayasa, the bird-themed collection of stiletto heel shoes was inspired by the art of Jakuchu Ito.

The Bird-Witched collection was inspired by Jakuchu Ito, a legendary painter who flourished during the Edo period in the 18th century. He depicted real life animals such as birds, tigers, and elephants in a really ingenious way, tinged with a bit of insanity. His realist aesthetic encouraged me to put emphasis on the details of the shoes, which resulted in unique collaborations that used historical Nishijin-ori textiles by Hosoo in Kyoto, or exquisite statuesque heels by Japanese sculptor Takashi Nakamura. Three pairs of shoes are covered with feathers, giving them a mysterious, iridescent texture. – Blouin Art Info

The collection will be on display during the “Killer Heels” exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum from September 10, 2014 through February 15, 2015.

Jack Vale Creeps Out His Family and Friends by Hacking Into Their Webcams and Spying on Them

Posted: 27 May 2014 12:58 PM PDT

Prankster Jack Vale recently creeped out a bunch of his friends and family members by hacking into their computer webcams and spying on them. Once he tapped into their cameras, he would immediately call them on the phone and point out the things that they were doing, such as: biting their nails, applying lip balm, and using a flower pen.

I hacked into my friends and family’s webcam and spied on them to demonstrate how easy it is for Hackers and even the government, to spy on people. Messing with the people I love was awesome!

Posted: 27 May 2014 11:00 AM PDT

Massimo Vignelli (1931-2014)

“If you can design one thing, you can design everything.”

Massimo Vignelli, the prolific designer whose modernist aesthetic shaped the American Airlines logo and the New York City subway map, died today at age 83. Vignelli was a founding partner of Unimark International, an influential design firm in the 60s and 70s that was known for its minimal, modernist work. In 1971 he founded Vignelli Associates along with his wife Lella–the couple would continue working together for the next four decades. Earlier this month we posted about Vignelli’s last request–he asked fans and friends to write him and let him know how his work had influenced them over the years.
