Interview with Winners of Lokmanya Tilak National Appellate Moot Court Competition, 2014: Posted: 01 Apr 2014 06:26 AM PDT Neeati Narayan interviewed the winners of Lokmanya Tilak National Appellate Moot Court Competition, 2014- Apurupa, Iti and Malvika from the Rizvi Law College, Mumbai. It was based on criminal provisions and had a daunting problem which the girls dealt with effectively and emerged as victorious. Read on for more insight for such Moot Court Competitions. Team Composition: Speaker 1: Apurupa Vatsalya Speaker 2: Iti Singh Speaker 3: Malvika Shetty Hey guys, congratulations on your victory! Basic questions first, what made you choose the moot in the first place? Apurupa – Hey! Thankyou so much! It was a criminal moot problem! The IPC and Constitution are usually my field of interest! Yes we were disappointed that it turned out to be an anticipatory bail application but we only understood how tough it is to get any adjudicator to listen to something without going into the merits of the case! Iti – Thanks a lot! So, we found out about the Moot Competition just 15 days before it was scheduled to be held and we were really impressed with their Moot Problem Docket which was a REAL BRIEF of 52 pages and we built it up in our heads that it's a hard core Criminal Appeal but it turned out to be an Anticipatory Bail! We were disappointed at first, but I kid you not, Anticipatory Bail is one of THE most difficult task for a Lawyer to convince a judge that a prima facie case can or cannot be made out for an anticipatory bail without leading or admitting a single document or evidence. How was the process of preparation? How did you go about the entire stage? Apurupa – I am very last minute in everything I do cause I somehow work best under immense pressure but my team wouldn't let me rest. We were very active in the limited period of time given to us – sleepless nights, thorough research, visiting courts, watching the conduct and ethics of lawyers eventually paid off. In something as simple as a bail application we included sections of IPC, CrPC, Constitution, Evidence and even international conventions! Iti – Well the process of our preparation was rather shoddy and thoroughly rushed! But we put in consecutive all nighters and managed to finish our memorials which rewarded us fructuously as we bagged the BEST MEMORIAL as well! Malvika, kept Apurupa and I very focused as she's really organized and the two of us are last minute babies but after thorough research and visiting the High Court to see criminal proceedings a couple of times, it helped us pick some Court Ethics. We used to cross question each other, literally play the devil's advocate, grill each other so we would be prepared with every line of defense and counter arguments! Malvika -The IPC commentaries was our bible. We also relied heavily on several other authorities. But, our focus was primarily on knowing the facts of the case at the back of our hands. We also met with a public […] The post Interview with Winners of Lokmanya Tilak National Appellate Moot Court Competition, 2014: appeared first on Lawctopus. |
Posted: 01 Apr 2014 06:10 AM PDT Campus Manager Girish Kalla of Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur recently interviewed Prof. Komal Audichya. In this chirpy interview, she talks about a fairly active childhood, an equally fast-paced college life and mulls over teaching as a profession. Read on for subtle jokes and some superb advice. 1. Hello Ma'am. Tell us something about yourself? I am Komal Audichya. I am 50 years old. I have done my LL.B and LLM from Panjab University, Chandigarh. Recently I am pursuing Phd. under the guidance of Prof. V.S.Mani. I have also taught in the Rajasthan University for 4 years. I have also been Principal/Vice-Principal for 8 years in the Shahid Bhagat Singh Law College, Jaipur and now I am working as an Assistant Prof. in Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University, Jaipur. I have been a Faculty Advisor to the Moot Court Committee and could successfully organize the Inaugural and subsequent edition of International Banking And Investment Law Moot Court Competition which is only possible with the help of my students. 2. Describe your childhood in brief? Your sources of inspiration i.e. your driving forces? I was an exuberant and spirited child. I was into sports, dramatics, NCCs, debating and above all always stood 1st or second in the class [you can see the certificates for authenticity ]. I still remember during one of our NCC Republic Day Camp which is conducted at the peak of winters and we have to stay in those tents then we have to wake up at sharp 4 o'clock in the morning and get ready by 5 o'clock to reporting for the preparation. I can say I was a strong girl in my childhood. 3. What made you choose this career line? Any particular people who inspired you to enter the revered teaching profession? The sources of inspiration, without fail, were my teachers and my mother who loved and nurtured me to become an all-rounder and a good human being. I always wanted to join practice but everyone discouraged me. So I settled in Jaipur after marriage and took up teaching. But once coming in to the teaching profession there was no looking back, and now I am very passionate about my teaching. Since I had best teachers like Prof. Paras Diwan, Dr. Balram Gupta, Dr. Veer Singh, Justice Jadgdish Kher, Dr. Jaiswal, Dr. Johar, and now Prof. V.S. Mani so I have always been inspired by them to give my best. 4. What was your college life like? I had a wonderful student life be it in school, college, or university because atmosphere in Chandigarh is very conducive for academics. I did my graduation in Science as earlier if you were good in studies Science stream was the destination set by parents for their children. But after graduation I became confident, could ARGUE with parents well, so thought law would be the most appropriate one for me. Moreover, I had good oratory skills and had quest to know more about to the legal […] The post FaculTea with Prof. Komal Audichya of Seedling School, Jaipur: Wonderful College Life, Confidence Boost, Google-Baba appeared first on Lawctopus. |
Posted: 01 Apr 2014 05:51 AM PDT Campus Manager Samarth Trigunayat from CNLU, Patna interviewed Prof (Dr.) Shaiwal Satyarthi as a part of our “FaculTea” initative. Sir talks about the drive behind him choosing law as his career, the joy of teaching and sharing knowledge with his students. Identify your greatest 'time-wasters' and begin to examine ways to reduce them… Hello, Prof. (Dr.) Shaiwal Satyarthi. Tell us something about yourself? I was born and brought up in Siwan (Bihar). I moved to University of Delhi to study commerce at undergraduate level in 1995, thereafter I shifted to BHU, Varanasi where I had been for 7-8 years to complete my LL.B, LL.M and Ph.D. I am happily married to my wife, Abiruchi and I have a lovely kid: My Son 'Shambhav'. In my personal life, I like to play sports, read, travel, and spend time with my family and friends. Describe your childhood in brief? Your sources of inspiration i.e. your driving forces? My Childhood Memory, I remember it like yesterday but the difficulty is that as we grow older and return to the places of our childhood, we are often surprised to discover things are not as we remember. My father is prominent lawyer of District Court at Siwan. However, my parents never imposed their preferences on me. So, when I decided not to practice as a lawyer at District Court of Siwan and joined the Chanakya National Law University as an Assistant Professor of Law, I was convinced of their support. Probably, this conviction and confidence I got from my parents, my wife and other family members, who has been an essential part of my life, made me take this challenging opportunity to teach law students. What made you choose this career line? Any particular people who inspired you to enter the revered teaching profession? The elder brother Dr. Sabya Sachin was a real inspiration to me, and he is one of the major reasons I pursued a teaching career. His ability to guide, his fairness, and his sense of justice made me aspire to bring these things to my own classroom. So far as choosing law subject for my career is concerned, my father Shri Ram Dayal Tiwari was a real inspiration to me because I used to assist him in his professional works by finding out required books and journals from his personal law library during my school days. As my father was my source of inspiration, I decided to study law only during my childhood (School days). Subsequently I joined Law School, BHU to complete my LL.B. How was your college life like? What bent you towards Law? As an undergraduate law (LL.B) student at School of Law, Banaras Hindu University, I participated in many research programmes focused mainly on Intellectual Property Law that strengthened my resolve to pursue Master's and doctoral degree in Law. Those of us in the Law School at the time had an amazing camaraderie and developed life-long friendships. We celebrated each other's birthdays and many othermilestones. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What incidents […] The post FaculTea Interview with Prof. (Dr.) Shaiwal Satyarthi of CNLU, Patna: Sharing Knowledge, Freedom to Pursue Selective Avenues appeared first on Lawctopus. |
Posted: 01 Apr 2014 05:24 AM PDT Name of the Organization, City: Gnarus Partners, W 129, Greater Kailash II, New Delhi 110048 Name: Chirag Jain, 5th Year, Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University Application Procedure: I mailed my CV along with the cover letter at jitendra@gnaruspartners.com and got a response within two hours which was followed by a telephonic interview, A questionnaire was then e-mailed to me which I was supposed to fill within a week and I received a confirmation after its review. Duration of Internship: The standard period of internship is two weeks that can be extended as per your performance in the firm. I interned for three weeks in the month of February 2014 and three weeks in the month of March 2014. Saturdays were generally off unless any important matter requires you to meet the deadline. Office size and its strength: The firm is pretty spacious for the number of people that includes the Partner, Associates and staff. Every intern is provided with a personal desktop with access to Westlaw and other separate workstation which makes researching an easier task. First Impression: My first impression about the firm was that it seemed systematic and organised. To my knowledge, I haven't seen any other law firm having a "Recruitment & Internship brochure" enumerating what they seek in an intern. No formalities here. On the first day, just after being introduced to every associate, I was straight away allotted research work. The associates themselves kept a check on my work which made me realise that whatever I did would be properly scrutinised. Personally, the perusal of every word I wrote made me happy because nothing is more satisfactory for an intern than his/her work being used as the final product. Main task: Being a corporate law firm, the work ranged from drafting legal opinion to researching on the core and ancillary issues. The firm truly believes and executes its policy of "not living the same day twice at the firm". So, if one day I was making notes on similarity of activities between NBFC and Banks, the other day I was drafting a write up for aviation consultancy firm. The other areas of law which the firm deals in are Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, IPR, Aviation etc. A background of the case was always given before any research or drafting work, so that I could understand the context behind it. The associates always answered all the queries patiently and were open to discussion before coming to a logical conclusion. What sets this firm apart from other law firms I have interned is the investment that is made on every intern i.e. training process which is not limited to activities like how to draft a Share Purchase Agreement but also enables practical and strategic understanding of business law, negotiation and deal making in a systematic manner. Work Environment: Healthy working environment is the asset of this firm. The firm believes in "Open-door Policy" where one can anytime talk to the associates or […] The post Internship @ Gnarus Partners: A Systematic and Organised Firm, Drafting Legal Opinions and Research Work appeared first on Lawctopus. |
