Six Links Worthy Of Your Attention #232

Is there one link, story, picture or thought that you saw online this week that you think somebody you know must see?

My friends: Alistair Croll (BitCurrent, Year One Labs, GigaOM, Human 2.0, Solve For Interesting, the author of Complete Web Monitoring, Managing Bandwidth: Deploying QOS in Enterprise Networks and Lean Analytics), Hugh McGuire (PressBooks, LibriVox, iambik and co-author of Book: A Futurist's Manifesto) and I decided that every week the three of us are going to share one link for one another (for a total of six links) that each individual feels the other person "must see".

Check out these six links that we're recommending to one another:

  • I Can Has Redemption - Backchannel. "I've known Ben Huh on and off for a few years; he's always been driven and optimistic. It's not surprising that when he sat down to write an introspective take on the long saga of Cheezburger, he pulled no punches. Must read for anyone living the roller coaster ups and downs of startup life." (Alistair for Hugh).
  • The Real Roots of Midlife Crisis - The Atlantic. "I celebrated a big milestone birthday this week -- one where, statistically, it is extremely likely my life is half over. This is a good, long read to understand what seems to be a universal human predicament, and a transition from execution to wisdom." (Alistair for Mitch).
  • Justice Scalia Explains What Was Wrong With The Ferguson Grand Jury - Think Progress. "Why the Ferguson Grand Jury decision in the Wilson/Brown shooting case was wrong. According to Supreme Court Justice, Antonin Scalia." (Hugh for Alistair).
  • Lost Footage: Muhammad Ali Keepin' it 100!!. "Muhammad Ali talking white and black." (Hugh for Mitch).
  • TV Bosses Say Ratings Won't Stop Being Awful Anytime Soon - AdWeek. "The Golden Goose of advertising. So, the truth\ slowly trickles out into the world, and what does it mean? Does it mean that the cost of advertising on television is going down? Nope. Prices keep going on up. Does this mean that advertisers are going to get more serious about shifting dollars to digital? Well, that's already happening. The problem is that they're treating digital like traditional advertising (like it's broadcasting), so we're in a place where most online advertising is almost as annoying and bad as most television advertising. We have to stop the madness. We have to start taking these opportunities to connect with an audience in a much more serious way." (Mitch for Alistair).
  • Ira Glass - Here's The Thing. "What Malcolm Gladwell is to business books, so too is Ira Glass to radio. The voice behind, This American Life, and the inventor of a new way to tell stories in radio format, Glass sits down with Alec Baldwin to discuss the art of radio, storytelling and what it takes to lead a powerful conversation. Yes, it's as captivating as his voice." (Mitch for Hugh).

Feel free to share these links and add your picks on Twitter, Facebook, in the comments below or wherever you play.

An Unexpected Journey

Posted: 29 Nov 2014 07:53 PM PST

It's a busy time of year.

It's crazy at the office. We're in a rush to get things done before the holidays. For the holidays, we're all planning (some stressing) about travel plans (even when it's for pleasure). With that, The New Year is around the corner. We're planning. We're getting ready for another year. The competition is fierce. Have you downloaded the latest app, that will help you be more productive? How many screens are staring you down - right now - with things that require your attention?

Shhh... watch this...

You're welcome.
