Frostie the Snow Goat Takes His First Steps With the Help of a Custom-Made Cart

Posted: 22 May 2014 09:18 AM PDT

“If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others… why wouldn’t we?”

A baby goat named Frostie who lives at Edgar’s Mission in Victoria, Australia, was born with joint-navel ill, a disease that affected the use of his back legs. Because the disease causes a build-up of toxins in the body, it’s especially important that Frostie be able to move. Luckily a custom cart that was made for his back legs, helps him to take his very first steps.

Joint navel ill is a disease that is seen in very young calves and kid goats and results from an infection entering the body via the umbilical cord soon after birth. The causes are often insufficient or poor quality colostrum (a mother's immune building first milk) or a dirty and hygienic environment. And in Frostie's case the bacteria had spread via his bloodstream and settled in the joints of his hind limbs -his joints becoming swollen, hot and painful and rendering him unable to use them. Necessity becoming the Mother of invention as we work to save and enrich the life of our newest little rescue , watch what happens next….

Mini Style Hacker is a photo project by Valencia, California-based mother Collette Wixom. She dresses her adorable 4-year-old son Ryker in stylish attire and takes pictures of him recreating popular fashion photos “to show other parents how they could do the same.” You can view more photos of young Ryker being a fashionable rockstar on Instagram, Facebook, and the official Mini Style Hacker website.

Ryker, who is featured in most of my photos, is 4 and is not a model or an actor. He is a regular kid who does regular kid things. I am able to get him to "pose" by making it fun for him. We use our imaginations a ton and have a great time while doing so. If you see him with his hands in his pockets, he is holstering his imaginary laser guns. If you see him leaning against a wall, he is trying to push it over with his body weight. If your child hates having their picture taken, give imaginative play a try!

While passing through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia, a driver for Tornado Hunter named Ricky Forbes captured this amazing footage of a determined mama bear reaching over a concrete median to rescue her highway-stranded cub.

Driving through British Columbia’s Kootenay National Park we stopped to capture a shot of a baby bear on the highway only to get much more of a show. While watching the cub we saw the mama bear stick it’s head over the barrier to save it’s young from its dangerous predicament. It almost looks like she looks both ways first! A very amazing sight to see.

In “Reawakening Extinct Species,” PBS show Quest takes look at the young field of de-extinction, in which scientists are working to bring extinct species back through processes like cloning. The 100,000 year shelf-life of DNA takes older creatures out of the running, so the field is focused on more recently extinct animals such as the passenger pigeon, which went from being one of the most abundant birds in the world to complete extinction over the course of 50 years.
